First, the Economy.
1. Return all tariffs to where they were on 1/1/25. Clear to me that importers just pass along the tariff to American consumers, that is why it can be viewed as a tax. Any future adjustments to tariffs, Congress needs to be involved so that all interests can be heard.
2. I will form a select committee to focus on inflation, with emphasis on food costs and housing. The committee will include the four most knowledgeable members of Congress along with leaders of business, industry and agriculture. Committee will report to the people and Congress at least once per month.
3. On making government more efficient to reduce deficit and attempt to reduce the national debt. Retain the current hiring freeze with exception of highly skilled replacements. DOGE will stand down and I will form a President’s Task Force on Government Efficiency, together will Congress, to comb through all government agencies and programs for cost reductions. We can afford emergency food, medicine and medical care to starving nations and I will restore USAID for this purpose. The food is mostly purchased from U.S. farmers anyway.
Immigration
1. I will continue the emergency declaration at the southern border because of the drug and human trafficking. I will visit the border shortly to view effectiveness of these measures.
2. I will pause all Deportations while I have a chance to refocus this program. I do not like breaking up families unless there is serious criminal activity. Typically the families often include U.S. citizens. Deporting farm and food production workers is shooting ourselves in the foot and some legal accommodation needs to be made. The Secretary of Agriculture statement that u.S. citizens will back fill these jobs only shows how little she knows about agriculture.
3. All persons deported by my administration will be afforded due process and will not be sent to countries where they cannot speak the language. Refugees from war torn counties will not be forced to return. Unaccompanied minor children and those brought here as very young children will not be deported.
4. I will not allow masked and unidentified officers grabbing people off the streets or raiding homes and businesses. Normal police procedure will be followed. National Guard will not be sent to U.S. cities unless requested or in serious emergency.
5. There is urgency in stopping the uncontrolled inflow of migrants, but there is no need for cruelty toward those already here.
Political Violence
There seems to be a “copy cat” factor in school shootings. So far this year there have been maybe 10-12 political killings with the assassination of Charles Kirk last week. Political bile is boiling over. The shooter was caught q1uickly and I thank Utah Governor Cox for trying to turn down the heat. Leadership matters. Words matter. False information matters. I struggle to find better words.
